Become a Pilot

Volunteer with Cycling Without Age - Fort Collins

We rely on caring volunteers, called Pilots, to bring seniors and others with limited mobility out for slow, safe, and joyful trishaw rides. As a Pilot, you’re not just pedaling a bike—you’re creating moments of connection, conversation, and fresh air that many riders don’t often get.

What Volunteers Do

Pilots:

  • Gently pedal seniors and other riders on our trishaw along safe, scenic routes

  • Help riders get comfortably seated and buckled in

  • Chat, listen, and create a warm, welcoming experience

  • Represent Cycling Without Age - Fort Collins with kindness, patience, and respect

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable riding a bike and enjoy spending time with older adults.

How We Train Pilots

Before giving rides, every Pilot completes a training session that covers:

  • How to safely operate the trishaw with passengers

  • Helping riders get in and out of the seat

  • Route guidelines and safety practices

  • How to communicate with riders and support their comfort

  • You’ll have a chance to practice, ask questions, and build confidence before taking anyone out on your own.

When Rides Begin

We are currently preparing for our first season of rides and plan to begin giving rides in the Spring of 2027. Training for Pilots will start ahead of that, so volunteers are ready when the season begins.
