Donations

Q: How will you use my donation?

These Trishaws are custom built for providing rides to seniors.  Cycling Without Age -  Fort Collins is a fully volunteer organization.  As such, all donations fund direct expenses including the cost of the trishaw, insurance, bike maintenance, hosting of the website, etc.

Volunteer Pilots

Q: How do I become a Pilot?

A: Start by filling out our volunteer interest form on the Volunteer page. We’ll follow up with you about training dates, requirements, and next steps so you can get ready to take seniors out for rides.

Q: What are the qualifications to be a Pilot?

A: Pilots should be comfortable riding a bicycle, able to safely handle a trishaw with passengers, and willing to complete our training. The trishaws are e-bikes built to be stable while carrying two passengers and the pilot.  But just as important, we look for pilots with empathy, patience, engaging communication skills, and a genuine desire to connect with seniors.

Q: How much time is required to be a Pilot?

A: We aim to keep volunteering flexible. Many Pilots commit to a few hours a month, while others ride more often during the season. You can sign up for ride times that fit your schedule once we begin regular rides.

Rides

Q: Who can take a ride?

A: Our rides are open to anyone and specifically designed for seniors and others with limited mobility who would benefit from getting outside, feeling the fresh air, and connecting with the community. Most riders come through senior living communities, care facilities or senior support organizations.

Q: What is it like to take a ride?

A: Rides are slow, safe, and unhurried. Pilots focus on comfort and conversation, creating a relaxing yet stimulating experience. Riders can enjoy the scenery, chat with their Pilot, and simply feel the joy of being out in the world again.  The section of the Poudre River Trail that we access provides a wonderful experience in nature.

Q: What is a Trishaw?

A: A Trishaw is a specially designed three-wheeled bicycle with a comfortable seat in front for passengers and a Pilot who pedals from behind. It’s built to be stable, safe, and accessible for seniors and people with limited mobility.  It is e-powered to allow the pilot to focus on a safe and enjoyable ride with their passenger(s).

Q: Where are the rides held?

A: Rides are held in Fort Collins, with a primary meeting point at the Poudre River White Water Park area near 209 East Vine Rd. We partner with senior care facilities to bring residents to this location for scheduled rides.  Rides can be any length of time up to about 50 minutes.

Q: Does it cost anything for a ride?

A: There is no cost to riders. Cycling Without Age - Fort Collins is supported by donations and community partners so that seniors and participants can enjoy rides free of charge.
